Moda Magazine culture staff writer, Ray Kirsch, reached out to me to direct a shoot for their online article Defying the Gender Binary. For this piece, Ray interviewed four non binary students at UW-Madison about their experience and journey with their identity. This online article was released alongside the Subversive Issue which aligned with the themes of breaking boundaries and disrupting the norms.  Although the article would be released separately, I also had to stick with the color palette and vision of the magazine for our photoshoot. I found the location for the shoot as well as styled and directed the entire photoshoot. This was a very fun project for me because unlike the chaos of magazine spread photoshoots with makeup artists, a whole creative team, models, and multiple photographers to manage, it was just me, the writer, a photographer, and the models. It also gave me a lot more space for creative liberty and the ability to connect one on one with everyone involved.
